The trek begins from Shana in Paro and concludes at Dodena near Thimphu.
The trekkers journey through two high passes from Jangothang The trek is
arduous and is very popular among the trekkers. The highest point in the
trek 4115 metres. The scenic view of Jumolhari mountain (7314 metres) from
Jangothang is very impressive.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Paro
You would be recieved in Paro Interational Airport by our
representative and escorted to your hotel. After some rest and food, we
would leave for Paro sightseeing. We would tour National musuem in Ta Dzong.
Our second stop would Paro Dzong, also known Rinchen Phug Dzong, literally
translated as fortress on a heap of jewels. Also see Drukgyel Dzong or
fortress of victory. View Takshang monastery, where Guru Rinpoche is said to
have meditated.
Day 2: Trek begins
Distance 14 kilometres, time 5-6 hours
The trek commences at Drukgyal Dzong. The trekkers trail the Paro river
through cultivated fields and tiny picturesque villages. We journey through
forests filled with innumerable birds and brightly hued butterflies. Night
in camp Shana. Altitude 2,820m.
Day 3: Shana -Thangthangka
Distance 21 Km, time 7-8hours.
The trekkers follow the river journeying through dense forests. The
zig-zagging path winds up and down on the hills. Sometimes it narrows and
then, it stretches. Overnight in a camp. Altitude 3610 m.
Day 4: Thangthangka - Jangothang
Distance 15 Km; Time 5 - 6 hours.
The trek gradually goes off the forest line and climbs into a picturesque
valley, passing Tegethang, a winter home of yak herdsmen. Have lunch in one
of the yak herdmen's huts. You can see number of yaks before arriving at the
Jhomolhari base camp (4,115 m). The camp in neighboured by high mountains.
See the ruins of an old fortress which guarded Bhutan against Tibetan
attacks.. Altitude 4,115 m
Day 5: Jangothang
The day earmarked for rest. Acclimatise yourself and pass delightful time
in the midst of nature.
Day 7: Jangothang - Thangthangka
The trail is as delightful as the rest of trek. Walk in the lap of nature,
soaking in the wonderful beauty.
Day 8: Thangthangka - Shana
For any lover of nature the walk would bring plenty of joy. Walk and soak
in the beauty which nature has to offer you.
Day 9 : Shana - Paro - Thimphu
The trek terminates here. Drive to Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan, which is
53 km away. Have plenty of sightseeing in Thimpu.
Day 10: Thimphu
More sightseeing in Thimphu. Leave for airport where you would board an
international flight for getting back to your home.
